Nicholas R. “Nick” Sayatovic, 66, passed away Aug. 19, 2013, at St. James Healthcare surrounded by his family and many dear friends.

He was born Aug. 22, 1946, in Butte, to Nicholas J. and Helen A. Sayatovic. He attended St. John’s Grade School and Butte High School.

He married Barbara Curran and was blessed with his only child, Niko. They later divorced. He was very proud to be a veteran and to have served his country during the Vietnam War. After serving in Korea, in the US Army, he returned to Butte and was a truck driver for various local trucking companies. He eventually opened his own construction company, Sayatovic Construction, which he owned and operated until he retired in 2012. He loved making his own hours and being his own boss.

He married the love of his life, Joyce C. Little, in 1999. A great passion of his, later in life, was his involvement with Family Worship Center, Evangelical Free Church and serving on the board of the Capstone Christian Academy. He became an important supporter of the many children within his church communities. He spent many hours volunteering and spending time enjoying the fellowship. He was a strong supporter of the local 4-H Youth Development Organization and served on the board of the Landlord Association for many years. He always loved children and supported them in everything they did, never missing a sporting event, dance recital, or any other activities they were involved in. Nick had the biggest heart and the best “bear” hug in the world.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen A. Casey; father, Nicholas J. Sayatovic; and stepson, Mike Little.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Joyce C. Sayatovic; son, Niko (Michaela) Sayatovic and their children, Zander and Aiya of Parker, Colo.; stepson, Richard Woyan, Parker, Colo.; stepdaughter, Brenda (Turtle) Johnson and their children, Robyn (John) Fisher, Sean (Trina) Johnson, and Kelli (Bob) Fivey; grandchildren, Terri (Sam) Rubick and Carissa Little; great-grandchildren, Taryn, Trey, Kayleigh, Kesley, Ashton, Ava, Tristan, Taylor, Nicole, Kyle, Bridgett and Hailey; sisters and brothers-in-law and their children, Joy (Ed) Skubitz and Kim Skubitz; Mary Lou (Bill) Spath and Sheila Campau and Paul Mannix; Betsy (Bert) Doughty and Wendy Chesley and Sean Doughty of Challis, Idaho; and cousins, Sister Lin Sayatovic and Kathy McArthur. There are many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends too numerous to name.

Celebration of life will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at the Butte Evangelical Free Church, 2210 Florence Ave., with a graveside service to follow at Mountain View Cemetery. The family will begin receiving visitors at noon.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Capstone Christian Academy, 1485 Continental Dr., Butte, 59701 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Don Plessas

There were two phases of Nick.

Phase one was the wild and crazy young person. Phase two was the loving and caring older person.

I was able to be good friends with Nick in phase two.

He sometimes would tell people about phase one and they would look at him in disbelief.  However, his stories were true.

I shed a tear every time I think of him as I am doing now.  Miss you good buddy.
