Stan had an old '42 Studebaker truck.  The front window would open.  He would open it on cold winter days to freeze us until we begged him to close it.

With this old truck Sarge (Stan's nickname) taught me a trick that would save my butt dozens of times on slick roads. He had me practice it on the roads behind the Star Lanes.  In those days they were only dirt roads with almost no traffic.

The trick was as you are sliding, hold down on your brake and steer in the direction you want to go.  Then release the brake and you go flying in that direction.  I missed many cars and other things on the slick roads of Butte with this trick.

Miss you Sarge.
