Mary Lynn Walker (Wozencraft)

Nov. 16, 1946-May 20, 2020

Mary Lynn (Walker) Wozencraft, best known as Lynn Layman, was born on November 16, 1946. She died at home in Ironwood, Michigan, on May 20, 2020, surrounded by the loves of her life; her 11 cats, Flower, Ranedrop, Smokey, Greystoke, Blackie, Grizelda, Hazel, Smudge, Annie, Smooch, and Ninja; two dogs, Phreddie and Domino; and thousands of her beloved books.

Lynn lived a full life and loved deeply. She was always there for the party but also there with a hand to hold. Lynn shared your highs and lows as you shared hers; dancing on tables or crying to Elvis hymns. You may have known her as a sister, a friend, a waitress, a bartender, a firefighter, the head of the food pantry, the cat lady, Mrs. Jack Sparrow, or Granny Lynn. No matter, to know her was to love her.

We want to show our love for her by honoring her, however shelter at home also means mourn at home. In the absence of a wake, funeral, celebration of life, or Butte Irish Catholic keening, we suggest you honor Lynn with a toast while listening to “Memory” by Barry Manilow. He sings, “Memory, all alone in the moonlight. I can smile at the old days, it was beautiful then. I remember a time I knew what happiness was, let that memory live again”.

We’d like her memory to “live again” as you reflect on her vibrant spirit, which she so freely shared. Think of her as you watch the next sunset and smile, because as she signed off on her last emails, “Nothing lasts forever, but at least we got memories”.
